ROOTSHIBATA

Texts

The villa and guest house “Zo-Shun-kaku” built by Kihachiro Okura, a businessman from Shibata City, on the banks of the Sumida River in 1872, will be moved to Higashi Park (the former site of Okura Park donated by Kihachiro). With the relocation of “Zo-Shun-kaku” as an opportunity, ROOTSHIBATA, civic organization established with young people involved in local community development, is collaborating with the city of Shibata on a project to revitalize the area in front of Shibata Station.
From 2020, ROOTSHIBATA has been continuously conducting citizen workshops, video production, promotion using SNS, documenting the relocation work, designing temporary construction enclosures, and planning post-completion events.
